Today we were learning about describing characters. Miss Petterson drew a funny character on the board and we all had to try and describe it on our mini whiteboards. Some of the words we were using were super fun. We also learned about staying away from boring describing words and brainstormed fun words like dowdy and peevish. What are some crazy describing words you like to use in your writing?

Lately in class we have been writing book reviews...
This is the review from Maddi.
Love that Dog by Sharon Creech
Love that Dog is a short book about poetry. It takes you on a journey through one boys eyes as he learns how poetry is art with words and creates pictures in your mind and on the page. As you read through the book you are introduced to lots of different types of poems each with a funny theme and commentary from the boy. He is inspired from published poets and mimics their format in his own unique way. I think that this book would encourage anyone who reads it to have a go at writing poems, even if they are silly and make no sense.
Overall I give this book a 5/5. A must read.
Whats a book you love?

We've been learning about the history of Dubai...
Today's post comes from Jonah. He has been studying Dubai's culture and history as part of history and geography.
Hi Jonah here,
Here are some of the facts I wrote in my fact file.
1. Dubai was a British port and territory.
2. The Maktoum family rules Dubai and has done so for hundreds of years.
3. The discovery of oil meant that the huge city we see today could be built.
4. The current Sheiks (that's similar to a king) of Dubai and Abu Dhabi were the instigators of creating the UAE (united arab emirates).
5. Dubai hosts many international sport events. Tennis and horse racing most notably.
6. Pearl diving was one of Dubai's original large trades.
7. Dubai has the tallest building in the world.
8. Dubai is famous for its trading and souks (like big open markets where you can find just about anything) but more specifically gold, spices and textiles.
9. Camel racing is a popular past time in Dubai.
10. Dubai has an indoor ski slope with penguins.
I hope you've learned a few interesting things about Dubai. Here are some pictures we have to share.

Today 5P wants to share there amazing math creations
Markers note: Please use your imagination here, I unfortunately could not find appropriate pictures that would be without real children in them from my own teaching. So picture instead images of students working hard on creating math problems with hands on blocks, sticks etc. If I were currently working in a school I would take example photos from a real classroom and have parent permission to upload photos as well as password protecting the blog.
Did you know!
Today we were learning about the planets. Have you learned about those yet? We got to watch a really cool video and learn a song about the planets to help us remember. We thought we would share it with you. Mr Jones said we might use it for our assembly item at the end of the term with our own dance moves.
What do you think? We will make sure to show you a picture maybe even a video of us being the planets.

Bobby - What's your favourite game to play at lunch time?
Joan - What do you learn at school?
Charlotte - What do you eat at school?
Karen - What is the best thing about Dubai?
James - How many different languages are spoken in your classroom?
Ben - Does it ever rain in Dubai?
Mohammad - What sports do you play?
Hamish - How big is your school?
Tim - What do you know about Sydney?
Mary - What do you think would shock us if we came to visit?
Maddi - Do you get to ride camels often?
Peter - Do you have a school library?
Liz - Whats some of your favourite books?
Miss Petterson - What are you most looking forward to learning this year?
Thats it from 5P this week. We look forward to hearing from you soon!
